L. Caldwell, Pastor New Jerusalem Baptist Cathedral Read: Psalms 89:48, 1 Corinthians 15: 55-57 In his book “Till Armageddon,” Dr. Billy Graham writes encouragement to the children of God relative to achieving the faith and spiritual strength to “hold on” in the hardest of times until God comes, and or receives us home (Psalms 23:4). Even though Jesus was surrounded by many as He came into Jerusalem riding on a donkey, He was alone. He was ready to endure until the end all that was coming His way for our sake. He had prepared Himself as His life was coming to a victorious end. His victory came in the preparation and not in avoidance of death. This is what Palm Sunday is really all about - preparation for eternity. When Jesus, riding on the donkey, came into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, this was not a stunt to bring attention to Him. He was preparing to win a great victory for each of us - the victory over sin and death. The Bible has much to say about the brevity of life and the necessity of preparing for eternity. Although most of us live as if we were indestructible, we need a new awareness of the fact that death is rapidly approaching for all of us. The Bible has many warnings about how we should prepare to meet God. Contrary to popular belief, God has nothing to do with putting a time limit on our lives. We use our freewill to lengthen or shorten our own lives. Life span is what we give ourselves, based upon the type of decisions we make relative to our own lives. Starting with obeying God’s laws, we grow or shorten our lives. The rich with all their wealth cannot buy a reprieve from the death sentence that’s given to every man. The poor cannot beg one extra day of life from the grave. This is the plight of man upon the earth due to sin in the world and in our hearts. The Scriptures says”What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes (James 4:14)”. Thanatology, the study of death and how to prepare for it, is taught in many of our colleges and universities here in America. However, the students are taught how to prepare for death without any reference, whatsoever, to God (Matthew 7:13-14). It appears, unless there is some spiritual intervention in the lives of these people and others, they will be walking the valley alone, all alone (Psalms 39:12, 103:15; 1 Chronicles 29:15). Our journey here upon the earth is meant to be a spiritual one, and not a secular one. We were ot born to be alone by our Creator. From the “cradle to the grave” should hold no sway upon “the children” of God. The simple reason being is that Heaven is our final home, not the grave. Our Lord encourages us not to be afraid of walking the valley alone (1 Corinthian! 15:54-58). Many a person who is cynics and secular has actually though deeply about life and eternity That person who is the life o the party, so to speak, may ak be the one wearing a mask o the fear of eternity. Undemeatl there is a deep dread and f^ of death and eternity. In ont recent survey it was found ths young people think more abou death than any other subject except sex. I am convinced that if people gave more thought to God’s promise to us about His eternity prepared for us, there would be more holy living anda greater consciousness of Godin their lives. Too many Christians try and put off the thought of death and of one day standing before the judgment seat of Christ to give an account ofhow they spent their time here on the earth. Jesus’ only objective on earth was to save us so none would be lost. God’s children have hope and are given hope by the Holy Spirit, Scriptures and from our faith in Jesus (1 Corinthians 9:10, 15:19-20; Philippian 1:20). God’s watchful eyes always notes when a sparrow falls to the ground. He would never turn His back on one ofHij children when they are carrying a heavy load, suffering « walking alone in the valley. He cares for us regardless! He gives us the assurance, “We know ta in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28), “We know that if this earthly ter: we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands (2 Corinthians 5:1).” These words of hope and inspiration from St. Paul, the apostle, should be our very own, as well. These triumphal'.: affirmations should be ringing with the hope and assurances of life eternal. Though we, as Christians, have no immunity from death and no claim to perpetual life on this earth we have the promises of God Who cannot lie, that all of out suffering and loneliness is ba a footstep to life eternal will Christ. As Christians, we have a glorious hope which extends beyond the grave and into heaven’s eternity (Revelations 14:13). Church let’s do this! Register To Vote For Notice to Creditors Call Today!
